In the second week of November, the Fifth Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, hosted by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), took place in Santiago, Chile. The meeting brought together representatives from governments, international institutions, academic institutions and civil society, with a strong presence of feminist movements from the Region. The Meeting was also a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Montevideo Consensus, the most important intergovernmental document on population and development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Jacqueline Pitanguy, along with Richarlls Martins, from REBRAPD and a member CEPIA’s Board of Associates, were part of the Brazilian delegation, headed by Claudia Barbosa, director of the Human Rights and Social Themes department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Andrea Romani and Mariana Barsted were also present at the meeting, representing CEPIA together with representatives of other civil society organizations and participated in meetings on the construction of the Political Declaration: 10 years of the Montevideo Consensus.

The position of the Brazilian delegation was acclaimed several times when stating that Brazil is back on the scene of the United Nations and multilateral forums and that the current government fully supports the Montevideo Consensus.
