The Permanent Forum of Domestic, Family and Gender Violence of the School of Magistrates of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ) promoted, on September 14, the webinar Psychological Violence against Women – the Law 14.188/2021, coordinated by Judge Adriana Ramos de Melo and with the participation of judges, lawyers and psychologists. Leila Linhares Barsted, from CEPIA and member of this Forum, accompanied this webinar that debated the new law that included the crime of psychological violence in the Penal Code. Until 2021, psychological violence, despite being foreseen in the Maria da Penha Law, had not been typified as a crime in Brazilian criminal legislation, which made it difficult for women to access the protection of the Judiciary.
