In a celebration of the 15 years of the Maria da Penha Law, CEPIA promoted on August 31st the broadcast live 15 years of the Maria da Penha Law – Behind the Scenes of the Elaboration of Bill 11.340, coordinated by the journalist Mara Regia, of Viva Maria Program, and with the participation of Leila Linhares Barsted, Silvia Pimentel, Iaris Cortes, Carmen Campos and Ella Wiecko, women who were ahead of the elaboration of this Law and who continue to monitor this important legal instrument.
They all recalled the steps taken to build a feminist project aimed at preventing gender violence, promoting public policies to assist women in situations of domestic and family violence, and holding aggressors accountable. They highlighted the links with women’s movements, the relationship with the Special Secretariat on Policies for Women, headed by Minister Nilcea Freire, and the joint work with the rapporteur of Bill 11.340, Deputy Jandira Feghali, who participated in the live broadcast with her recorded testimony.
