The first edition of the course took place in 1999 at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). It was the result of a partnership between CEPIA and UERJ. The course was directed to undergraduate students in Nursing.
The faculty has integrated a multidisciplinary team of professionals in different areas ranging from anthropology to the legal area.
Composed of 30 hours / class, it was divided into three modules. The first module presented the themes: professionalization of nursing, creation of schools and globalization and nursing – perspectives for the 21st century. Ethics, bioethics and human rights were the themes of the second module. The third and final module discussed sexuality, gender and power, reproductive health public policies, and social movements. The students also held evaluation seminars at the end of each module.
