Medical knowledge, Boby and Society – undergraduate course of the Faculty of Medicine

Detalhes

The Saber Medical, Body and Society course is the result of a partnership that has existed since 1996 between CEPIA and the Faculty of Medicine of UFRJ. Along with the faculty professors and invited professors from other higher education institutions, non-academic entities and NGOs, the course discusses the role of social variables, gender, ethnicity, political power and citizenship in the production of knowledge in medicine.

The course was the result of the desire of the Faculty of Medicine for curricular flexibilization and of CEPIA’s search for a greater interlocution with health professionals, in order to raise awareness about gender issues. Initially offered as an extension, the course became part of the elective courses and consists of four modules: scientific method, building medical knowledge, medicine and society and body, sexuality and medical knowledge. Each of the modules has three to four classes and a joint reflection and evaluation seminar.
