The Consortium Lei Maria da Penha worked on the drafting of the Maria da Penha Law draft. Since the beginning of the work, the Consortium has been committed to drafting a law that corresponds to the international recommendations for the defense of women’s rights and collaborates to foster a new organization of the Justice System to respond in a compatible manner with due diligence and consider the urgency, severity and complexity of gender-based violence against women, configured as domestic and family violence. The Consortium carefully monitors the legislative movements that change the Maria da Penha Law and put its integrity at risk. At this moment when the topic of hybrid competence returns to public debate, the Consortium makes its contribution by recalling that the Maria da Penha Law has as its origin the commitment to protect the lives of women and their right to live free from all types of violence.
