The “Guidance Booklet for Victims of Hate Speech” is the result of the cooperation agreement for legal practice in human rights signed between the Center for Legal Practice (NPJ) of FGV Law School in Rio and the Center for the Defense of Human Rights (Nudedh) from Public Defender’s Office in Rio de Janeiro.
In clear and accessible language, the material provides guidelines for victims of hate speech, which has been conceptualized by the UN as “any type of communication by speech, text or behavior that attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language towards a person or group based on who they are or, in other words, based on their religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, color, descent, gender or other identity factor. This is often rooted and generates intolerance and hatred and, in certain contexts, can be humiliating and excluding “.
