The Research Group on Gender, Race and Ethnicity (NUPEGRE) of the Magistrate’s School of Rio de Janeiro State (EMERJ), with the institutional support of Fonavid (National Forum of Domestic Violence Judges), carried out, throughout the on March 4th, at EMERJ headquarters, the Seminar “The History of Women and Women in the History of Brazil”, organized by judge Adriana Ramos de Mello and historian Lana Lage da Gama Lima. Leila Linhares Barsted, executive coordinator of CEPIA, presented as speaker the theme “The construction of the Maria da Penha Law”, in the panel “The conquests of Feminism in Contemporary Brazil”. This event paid a posthumous tribute to Minister Nilcéa Freire, who played a very important role in front of the Secretariat of Policies for Women – SPM, highlighting her role in the approval of the Maria da Penha Law.
