On August 26th, International Women’s Equality Day, CEPIA held an art activism action in Largo de São Francisco da Prainha, in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the urgency of updating Brazil’s abortion law, which still follows the 1940 legislation. The installation included projections of images on the buildings and a disc telephone, symbolizing the disconnect between the law and the current reality, and distributed information materials to raise awareness about the challenges faced by women and pregnant people.

With the recent attempt by Congress to discuss a bill that threatens reproductive rights, the debate has gained even more relevance. The action sought to raise awareness about the need to advance public policies to guarantee reproductive justice, especially in a context where thousands are affected by unsafe abortions every year.
