The launch of the Campaign took place in Brasília, on May 28th, which marks the International Day to Struggle for Women’s Health and the National Day to Reduce Maternal Mortality.  With a projection on the National Library building in Brasília and at the bus terminal, distribution of postcards, scarves, stickers and several billboards spread across the federal capital, the action highlighted the urgent need to update the legislation that governs abortion rights and which dates back to 1940.

In Brazil, unsafe abortions affect around 800,000 women annually, representing the fifth cause of maternal deaths. The campaign seeks to align laws with current realities and promote safe abortion as a matter of public health and dignity. And it will soon pass through other capitals in the country.
