On April 9th and 10th, the Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women’s Rights (CLADEM Brazil) and the Specialized Center for the Promotion and Defense of Women’s Rights of the Public Defender’s Office of the State of São Paulo (NUDEM) held the II Seminar on Feminicide Sexual Violence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Leila Linhares Barsted presented the opening lecture on Violence against girls and women after 30 years of the Belém do Pará Convention. The seminar also featured a presentation of the study The relationship between sexual violence and the death of girls and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean (2010-2019), by Alejandra Paolini (CLADEM Argentina), and a panel on Barriers to the protection of girls against forced maternity: an analysis of abortion in Brazil with the participation of Denise Mascarenha (Católicas pelo Direito de Decidir), Letícia Ueda Vella (Coletivo Feminista Sexualidade e Saúde), Maíra Bittencourt (Frente Estadual pela Legalização do Aborto em São Paulo), Mariane Marçal (Criola) and Paula Viana (Grupo Curumim).
