On February the 28th, UN Women, OHCHR and Race and Equality held an Information Session with Brazilian women’s organizations to present the international advocacy for 2024 and encourage women’s movements and organizations to advocate with the UN’s human rights mechanisms. The meeting briefly presented the international mechanisms, what they are and how they work, and the importance of the active participation of Brazilian movements, networks and organizations in the events on the Agenda.
Leila Linhares Barsted took part in this meeting, which was well attended by women’s organizations. Among these events were the possibility of sending written contributions to draw up the list of questions for the review of Brazil by the Committee on the Rights of the Child; the call for written contributions to draw up the agenda of the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, who will visit the country in April; and the call to send shadow reports from civil society for the review of Brazil by the CEDAW Committee.
