Leila Linhares Barsted, on February 9th, spoke about the history of the feminist struggle against violence in Brazil, the legislative progress represented by the Maria da Penha Law, the maintenance of high rates of feminicides, the lack of public policies aimed at the prevention of all forms of violence, the stereotypes and prejudices of gender and race, still strongly present in the security and justice systems, which act as impediments to women’s access to justice.
