The international network of women’s organizations from the South Global Women’s Learning Partnership (WLP) brought together its partner organizations on October 29th for an online event. The meeting was divided into two moments, the first focused on challenges, opportunities and lessons learned from women’s organizations in the global context of “polycrisis”, including armed conflicts, climate crisis, democratic setbacks. Reports were shared about the war situation in Palestine, the reduction of space for civil society in Kyrgyzstan and the consequences of the 2023 earthquake in Türkiye.
In the second moment, WLP partner organizations, including NGOs from Egypt, Morocco, Malaysia, Jordan, Mozambique, Nigeria, Mauritania, Senegal, Brazil, among others, shared their activities, learnings and the contexts in which they are working. Andrea Romani spoke of the importance of expanding and diversifying dialogue with other organizations and individuals who share republican values and defend people’s dignity, as a way of countering the advance of the extreme right and expanding the field of individuals and institutions that oppose anti-gender bills from the Brazilian National Congress.
Jacqueline Pitanguy, who also participated in the event, highlighted the strength of the WLP network and its potential political role in the international arena. She also commented on the power of each of the partner organizations, in terms of its diversity and the various contexts and activities being developed by them in the local, national and regional level ranging from training activities to advocacy for laws and policies, campaigns and the production of research and national mobilizations.
