“Mothers of 1964” is an event that aims to mark the 60th anniversary of the military coup in Brazil by honoring the mothers of people who were arrested, tortured and disappeared during the 21-year military regime.
The event is being organized by the Public Defender’s Office of the State of São Paulo (EDEPE) and the Human Rights, Democracy and Memory Research Group (GPDH) of the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA) at USP.
The seminar will be held on October 22nd from 9am to 5pm and is divided into two moments.
The first part, “Mães de 1964” – will be held in person at Sala Alfredo Bosi, Rua da Praça do Relógio, 109, São Paulo, starting at 9am with a presentation by Jacqueline Pitanguy, followed by the screening of the film O Mensageiro de Lúcia Murat and Debate Panel with Amelinha Teles, Janaina Teles and Vera Paiva.
The second part – 60 years of the coup: memories and reflections – will be online from 3:30 pm and will feature Bruno Paes Manso.
