On October 2nd, the Maternal Mortality (MM) Committee Meeting of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro was held. At the meeting, the MM rates were presented, which fortunately showed a significant drop between September 2023 and 2024, but with the persistence of higher rates among black women. Jacqueline Pitanguy, who represents Cepia on this Committee, drew attention to the fact that the state of RJ has the worst MM rates in the southeastern states of Brazil.
