On EBC’s Viva Maria program on September 30, journalist Mara Regia spoke with Jacqueline Pitanguy about women and politics. Mara pointed out that in the upcoming Brazilian elections, women represent only 6% of candidates. Jacqueline drew attention to Brazil’s shameful position, which ranks last in Latin America in terms of female presence in parliament, but also emphasized that, even in small numbers, they have acted to curb violence and advance important human rights issues.
