The Consortium Maria da Penha Law for Confronting All Forms of Gender Violence Against Women (Consórcio Lei Maria da Penha), as a feminist organization that proposed the Maria da Penha Law, and concerned about the repercussions of the measures provided for in Bill 4266/2023 for the protection and guarantee of women’s rights and the prevention of all forms of gender violence, releases this Public Note in defense of a total veto of this legislative proposal.

Bill 4266/2023, authored by Senator Margareth Buzetti (PSD/MT), makes femicide an autonomous crime, increases its penalty and that of other crimes committed against women for reasons of their gender and establishes other measures aimed at preventing and curbing violence against women. To this end, it amends the Penal Code, the Maria da Penha Law (LPM), the Criminal Contraventions Law, the Criminal Enforcement Law, the Heinous Crimes Law and the Code of Criminal Procedure.
