On June 14th, the Maria da Penha Law Consortium, of which CEPIA is a member, in partnership with the organization Tamo Juntas, held a seminar to launch the book The importance of a comprehensive law to protect women in situations of gender-based violence, a work that points the way to the creation of a general law that recognizes and responds to all forms of gender-based violence against women in Brazil.

The book was conceived and developed by the Maria da Penha Law Consortium through the Connecting Women, Defending Rights project, supported by UN Women.

The online version of the book can be accessed at bit.ly/lei-integral-protecao. Over the course of 148 pages, Fabiana Cristina Severi, José de Jesus Filho, Leila Linhares Barsted, Myllena Calasans de Matos and Wânia Pasinato present an important survey and analysis of international normative instruments, national legislative proposals and decisions by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) on the protection of women’s rights. The book also provides examples of general laws passed in other countries, building a common continent of references and successful experiences in the field.
