Journalist Mara Regia, host of the Viva Maria radio show, interviewed Mariana Barsted on the occasion of the attacks suffered by MP Luiza Erundina, a historic figure in the defense of human rights. Erundina fell ill during a session of the Chamber of Deputies’ Commission on Human Rights, Minorities and Racial Equality that was analyzing Bill 1156/2021, of which she is the rapporteur, a bill that aims to establish the responsibility of the Brazilian state to publicly identify places of political repression used by agents of the civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985). Before her speech, the parliamentarian, now 89 years old, had to listen to provocations and mockery on the subject from Bolsonaro parliamentarians, representatives of the fundamentalist far right. In this interview, Mariana talks about gender-based political violence against women and the importance of the violent acts that have taken place within the Brazilian National Congress being investigated and punished by the Speaker of the House, since the law on political violence against women, Law 14.192/21, must be complied and enforced.
