On April 4th, the Women’s Safety Commission of the State Council for Women’s Rights held a meeting to debate Law No. 14.737/2023, which, as a whole, extends the right of women to have a companion when attending public and private health services. However, the Security Commission considered that §4 of the law prevents women from having a companion in the case of care provided in a surgical center, as is the case with surgical childbirth. In this sense, the Committee decided to draw up a Technical Note specifically opposing paragraph 4 of Law 14.737.

Leila Linhares Barsted, a member of the Commission, took part in this meeting.
