On March 25th, the Brazilian Bar Association – OAB/RJ, through its Family Law Commission, held an in-person seminar to present and debate the documentary Lobby do Batom (Lipstick Lobby). The documentary deals with the movement that changed women’s lives in Brazil during the transition from military dictatorship to democracy, with the formation of the National Constituent Assembly, where women went in search of their rights in one of the first major feminist movements in Brazil.

Called the Lipstick Lobby, it led to the creation of the National Council for Women’s Rights and launched the urgent need for women’s rights to be recognized with the slogan ‘Constituent Assembly must have a woman’s say’, which resulted in the approval of a more democratic and inclusive Constitution for Brazilian women in 1988.

The documentary was made by director Gabriela Gastal, screenwriter Christiana Albuquerque and producer Renata Fraga. Participating as speakers at the seminar were lawyer Leila Linhares Barsted, who at the time was also a member of OAB Mulher, and economist Hildete Pereira de Mello, who were part of this great women’s movement in the Constituent Assembly process.
