From March 11th to 22nd, the 68th annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) took place, the main United Nations meeting on gender equality and women’s empowerment. At each session, a priority topic is chosen. This year the theme was  “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.

In addition to the official meetings attended by delegations from the various countries negotiating the final document, several parallel events took place. CEPIA, represented by Andrea Romani, had the opportunity to follow several activities.

The final document of the meeting, even though it did not achieve very significant advances in some fields such as sexual and reproductive rights and global taxation and care work, constitutes an important instrument for the defense of women’s human rights that can be used internally, since these are agreements committed by the Brazilian government.
