Leila Linhares Barsted received the Carlota Pereira de Queirós 2023 Woman-Citizen Diploma from the Chamber of Deputies at a formal session in Brasilia on October 25th, an award given to personalities whose work or actions have contributed to the full exercise of citizenship, the defense of women’s rights and gender issues in Brazil.

In addition to Leila Linhares Barsted, the following were also honored: the Minister for Women, Aparecida Gonçalves; the economist and businesswoman Flávia Gonzaga Costa Chagas; the first Brazilian woman elected mayor of a capital city (Fortaleza) in 1985, Maria Luiza Fontenele; and the former president of the Federal Supreme Court Rosa Weber.

Carlota Pereira de Queirós (1892-1982) was a doctor and the first Brazilian woman to vote and be elected as a federal deputy in the history of Brazil, participating as a constituent deputy in the approval of the Federal Constitution of 1934.
