On September 4th, the Brazilian Lawyers Institute (IAB) and its Women’s Rights Commission held the ADPF 442 Seminar at the Supreme Court – A necessary discussion to debate the decriminalization of voluntary abortion.
The seminar, held in a hybrid format, was opened by Sydney Sanches, President of the IAB, Rita Cortez, President of the Women’s Rights Commission, Adriana Brasil Guimarães and Débora Martins, vice-presidents of the Commission. Luciana Boiteaux, IAB member Leila Linhares Barsted and criminal lawyer João Carlos Castellar. On this occasion, the IAB’s position, expressed in a document approved in Plenary in 2018, in favor of Action Against the Violation of a Constitutional Fundamental Rights (ADPF) 442, was debated as a legal instrument to strengthen the decriminalization of voluntary abortion.
