The School of Magistracy of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ) held on June 12th the event Challenges of human rights effectiveness in the 21st century, promoted by its various Thematic Forums and broadcast via the Zoom platform.
Leila Linhares Barsted followed this event, which had among the speakers, judge Caetano Ernesto da Fonseca Costa affirming that it is necessary that human rights be maintained, defended, and preserved, and that they need to be faced both in legal doctrine and in jurisprudence; judge Cristina Tereza Gaulia, referring to the several inequalities, called attention to the fact that “invisibilities need to be seen and supported, because, if they are not, they don’t reach Justice and we will always be working below what is necessary”. Judge Adriana Ramos de Mello mentioned a UN research that shows that, in Brazil, 84.5% of the people have at least one kind of prejudice against women. At the end of the event there was the launching of the book Desafios da Eficácia dos Direitos Humanos no Século XXI (Challenges to the Efficiency of Human Rights in the 21st Century), organized by judge Caetano Ernesto da Fonseca Costa and Guilherme Sandoval Góes. The representativeness of the speakers and their institutions indicates the importance given by School of Magistrature of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ) to the promotion of human rights.
