Leila Linhares Barsted participated, on May 15th, in the launching, at Cinema Estação Rio, of the documentary Until Life Separates Us – A Biography of Nelson Carneiro, directed by Emília Silveira.
The documentary highlights the work of Senator Nelson Carneiro, responsible for the approval of more than a thousand laws, among them the whale hunting control law, and especially the expansion of civil rights, such as the defense of the Married Women’s Statute, the recognition of the status of partner, the elimination of the difference between children born in marriage and children born out of wedlock. He was the author and acted decisively for the approval of the Divorce Law of 1977.
Leila Linhares Barsted was one of the interviewees for this documentary and participated, after the screening, in the Round Table Discussion, coordinated by Giovana Carneiro, together with Joyce Trindade, Municipal Secretary for Women, and Emília Silveira, the film’s director.
