The Permanent Forum on Domestic, Family and Gender Violence, together with the Center for Research on Gender, Race and Ethnicity (NUPEGRE) and the State Council of Women’s Rights (Cedim / RJ), promoted on February 15th, the event Violence obstetric, sexual and reproductive rights in the School of Magistracy of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ).

Leila Linhares Barsted, member of the Forum and of the Committee of Experts of the Mechanism of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the Follow-up of the Inter-American Convention to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women – Convention of Belém do Pará, participated as a speaker in this event.

“Obstetric violence is understood when a woman suffers physical or psychological abuse during childbirth or when seeking health services during pregnancy. This term is not only related to the work of health professionals, but also to structural failures of clinics, hospitals and the health system as a whole.”
