From November 8 to 11th, the XV Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean took place. It is the main intergovernmental forum of the United Nations on women’s rights and gender equality. The Forum, which is traditionally organized by ECLAC, and since 2020,  also has UN Women, had as its central theme the society of care as a horizon for a sustainable recovery with gender equality.

Held in Buenos Aires, the Conference brought together delegations from 30 countries in the region, in addition to representatives from various United Nations agencies and civil society organizations.

Andrea Romani and Jacqueline pitanguy attended the Conference, along with other organizations that form part of the Fòs Feminista regional alliance.

The document with the demands of women in the region was read in plenary, as well as the YouthDeclarationCRMXV.

Among the commitments by representatives of the countries present at the Conference include sexual and reproductive health  “Create enabling conditions for the autonomy of women, adolescents and girls in all their diversity through capacity-building, technology, humanitarian assistance, the provision of and investment in affordable, quality infrastructure and essential services, promoting, among other things, universal access to comprehensive health services, including mental health services, sexual and reproductive health, and the full exercise of sexual and reproductive rights, through access to information and comprehensive sexuality education and to safe abortion services in those cases where abortion is legal or decriminalized under national legislation, as well as access to education and comprehensive services for the prevention of gender- based violence against women…”
