Although the legislation has advanced, the participation of women in the 2022 elections is still low.

Despite the fact that in Brazil we had a small advance in relation to the 2018 dispute, this percentage went from 32% to 33% of the total candidacy of women. According to a survey published on the G1 portal, this year’s overall figure for 2022 is very close to the minimum required by the legislation, which stipulates a minimum quota of 30% women in the list of candidates.

Women represent 51% of the country’s population, according to the IBGE, and only three out of ten candidacies are female.

On August 18th, Mariana Barsted, lawyer and program officer at CEPIA, was interviewed by Mara Régia, in the Program Viva Maria, commenting on recent research released and also bringing up CEPIA’s recent productions on this theme.
