On August 17th, Radio Brasil Atual and TVT presented a program about women and Afghanistan. Jacqueline Pitanguy was interviewed and highlighted the need for countries to show solidarity with women and girls who are in imminent danger from the Taliban regime’s takeover. She  stressed the importance of governments opening their borders to Afghan refugees and putting pressure on the Taliban to allow them to leave the country. Jacqueline also warned that the situation in that country, being extreme, is not a point off the curve, as in other countries, such as Brazil, religion dominates the political scenario and laws and public policies are implemented due to of interpretations of sacred books, whether the Bible or the Koran.
