The Maternal Mortality Committee (MM) met on July 22nd to organize the information that will be presented to the Municipal Secretary of Health on the alarming situation of maternal death in Rio de Janeiro.
The data show a MM ratio of 114/100 thousand, unacceptable in this municipality and with a higher incidence of deaths among black women.

It is important to remember that the UN Millennium Goals propose a ratio of 30 and that in developed countries and even in neighbors countries this ratio is below 20.
Even if Covid influenced the increase seen in 2020, data shows a historical trend of neglecting the health and reproductive rights of women.

Jacqueline Pitanguy represents CEPIA in this Committee and participated in this meeting.
