CEPIA, jointly with the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA-Rio) and Redes da Maré NGO, organized, on December 15, the workshop Straight talk: youth and protagonism, bringing together teenagers from 12 to 17 years. This meeting was part of the  efforts of revising and updating the Municipal Plan to Combat Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents and had as main objective to hear and learn from adolescents their expectations of participation and protagonism in the identification and prevention of sexual violence. Facilitated by Debora Pinheiro and Lucas Marçal, from CEPIA’s youth team, the workshop included teachers from the municipal public schools, along with America Ungaretti, representing the CMDCA-Rio, Inês Cristina Di Mare Salles, from Redes da Maré and Andrea Romani and Karla Oldane from CEPIA.

On a peer to peer conversation the adolescents shared fears, concerns and reports of sexual violence, at the same time that they presented several suggestions on how they consider that they can exercise their protagonism in the defense of their rights. These reflections took as a starting point the proposals presented by, adolescents, at the XI Municipal Conference on the Rights of Children and Adolescents, 2018.
