On June 4, the first (virtual) Transnational Partners Convening took place, gathering representatives of the various organizations that are part of the international Women’s Learning Partnership (WLP) network, in addition to representatives of its Board of Directors. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange experiences and perceptions on the challenges of the pandemic, but also the opportunities of the Partnership to move beyond Covid-19. WLP has organizations from the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America. CEPIA, which is part of the network, participated in the meeting represented by Jacqueline Pitanguy and Andrea Romani.
Despite local and regional specificities, the participants presentations highlighted the common concerns regarding the impacts of Covid-19 on women, including increased domestic violence, reduced income, precariousness of essential services on sexual and reproductive health and justice and difficulties in accessing them, among others. Strategies on how each organization is responding to the challenges of the pandemic were also shared.
