May 18th  is the day that marks the struggle for the human rights of children and adolescents in the fight against sexual violence. In 2020 we are celebrating  the 20th anniversary of that date, instituted by Federal Law No. 9,970 of 2000.

Despite all the national mobilization and the 20 years of struggle, cases of sexual abuse and exploitation against children and adolescents are still alarmingly high. Recent data from Agência Brasil reported 17,093 cases of sexual violence against children and adolescents in 2019.

Numerous initiatives are being developed in the country to set the date. CEPIA, which is part of the working group on sexual violence of the State Forum for the Eradication of Child Labor and Protection of Adolescent Workers (FEPETI / RJ), in conjunction with FEPETI / RJ and CMDCA / RJ (Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescent), joins in the organization of several initiatives that will occur from May 18th.

Among the initiatives are included:

May 19 (2 pm to 5 pm) – Sexual Violence in times of the new coronavirus pandemic- Covid-19: Conversation with directors and technicians from CREAS and DCAV

May 25 (2 pm to 4 pm) – Different Views on the impacts of COVID-19 on sexual violence

May 29 (2 pm to 5 pm) – The performance of public services against Covid-19 according to the Rights Guarantee System
