The Rio de Janeiro section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), through its Women Directory, asked that the emergency protective measures, already granted, for women in situations of domestic violence be automatically extended and that the new ones be ordered with an indefinite term.
The aim is to stop the spike in cases of domestic violence recorded during the lockdown caused by Covid-19. The increase in the number of complaints in the country was confirmed by the National Council of Justice and led to the creation of a working group by the agency’s president, Dias Toffoli, on April 22.
OAB suggests the creation of educational campaigns whose materials would be posted in essential retail locations, such as pharmacies and supermarkets.
