On April 24, it will begin the trial by the Supreme Federal Court, STF, of Action 5581 (ADI 5581) filed by the National Association of Public Defenders, in which CEPIA is Amicus Curiae. The Action demands protection and social benefits to pregnant women infected by Zika and care of their children with the Zika Virus Secondary Syndrome as well as the right to decriminalization of abortion for women that had been infected by the Zika virus.

The Zika virus is still circulating in the country and, more than four years after the outbreak began, the Zika virus remains a public health issue. Currently, in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, with pregnant women being considered a risk group and the respiratory complications of babies with Secondary Zika Virus Syndrome, make these demands even more necessary and urgent.

In collaboration with a coalition of feminist organizations, CEPIA has been posting qualified information on its social medias in order to provide  visibility and raise public awareness about the urgency of the matter.
